Our Curriculum
We Are A Learning School
We want children to learn how to learn as well as gain the building bricks of essential knowledge. ‘Be a great learner’ is one of the 3 key themes of the Moor Allerton Hall Way and we teach children our 6 learning muscles of how to do this. We help children to develop a growth mindset where it is ok to aim high, grapple with learning, make mistakes and learn from them.
We have challenged ourselves to continue to develop our curriculum to be relevant to our children’s lives and have added strands of learning such as Climate Change and Black Lives Matter. We use the latest technology to involve all children in home learning.
In our school, teachers are involved in learning too and we use research projects to continue to refine our good practice, including applying the latest approaches to embed knowledge into long term memory.
Early Years & Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The curriculum for the foundation stage outlines 7 areas of learning, these are:

Communication and language
Physical development
Personal and social development
Specific Areas:
Literacy
Maths
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
Each area is then divided into more specific areas of learning, for example, literacy is split into reading and writing, maths is split into numbers and shape, space and measure. Whilst these areas of learning are quite defined it is recognised that children do not develop in each area separately. With this is mind the reception class is set up into areas or bays called ‘areas of provision’. These areas are available continually and offer a range of resources which engage, stimulate and inspire children to be curious, to explore, investigate, talk, question and socialise with their peers. In this way children’s individual learning and development is fostered through their own interests and at a level which supports what they already know. Adults in the classroom scaffold learning through talk; challenging existing knowledge, concepts and skills.
Phonics Teaching
In Reception and Key Stage One we teach phonics using the Read Write Inc published phonic scheme by Ruth Miskin. On the Read write Inc website, you can find tutorials to support your child and video clips to pronounce the pure sounds.
